In clinical orthodontic treatment, buccal tubes are essential components of fixed appliances, designed to accommodate the archwire and guide tooth movement. However, traditional buccal tubes often present operational challenges during archwire insertion. When clinicians use instruments to grip and slot the archwire, minor hand tremors or instrument slippage can cause the archwire to fall out. Because archwires are highly elastic, they tend to spring back or shift when bent in complex configurations. If the wire slips out, clinicians must readjust and repeat the insertion steps, which not only extends chair time but also increases the risk of archwire deformation from multiple attempts, thereby impacting patient comfort.
To address this clinical challenge, the DTC R&D team developed this novel orthodontic buccal tube after extensive technical exploration. The patented design features a coordinated structure comprising a baseplate, a tube body, an elastic component, and a limiting block with a slanted edge. During insertion, when pressure is applied to the slanted edge, the limiting block automatically shifts downward, compressing the elastic component to provide reliable guidance and positioning for the archwire. Once the archwire is successfully inserted, the cooperative action of the elastic component and the limiting block effectively locks and secures the wire in place, preventing accidental detachment.
Beyond optimizing the insertion mechanism, the design also prioritizes clinical safety and patient comfort. The buccal tube incorporates fixing blocks on both sides of the inner body, along with curved plates featuring curved grooves. During archwire insertion, these grooves align with the wire's outer profile to provide directional guidance, significantly reducing friction.
Additionally, when the protruding blocks snap into the fixing slots, the curved plates are securely locked. This structure serves as a physical barrier at the archwire slot and the wire's end, preventing the wire tip from scratching or irritating the patient' s oral mucosa in the complex oral environment. This clinician-friendly design streamlines workflow while enhancing the overall patient experience.
